FAQ
Frequently asked questions about our sessions.
GENERAL QUESTIONS
Q: How far in advance should I schedule my photo shoot?
A: If you have a deadline, it’s recommended that you schedule your session 2-3 months prior to your deadline.
Q: I board my horse, can you come to my boarding facility to do our session?
A: Yes, make sure you discuss this with your barn manager before inquiring and keep them in the loop with our session time in case there’s lessons going on or horses in places where they’re not supposed to be, etc.
Q: “Do you shoot weddings?”
A: As much as Bethany loves weddings, no she does not. She would much rather be a guest than a photographer at a wedding. But, you should check out our friends Ivan and Louise or Sweet Caroline

Q: “What exactly is it that you do?”
A: BQS is a boutique portrait photography studio located in Indianapolis, Indiana. BQS creates hair and makeup “model for a day” experiences. (We do farm calls for equine portrait sessions.)

Q: “All of your clients look like models, how much editing do you do?”
A: Why, thank you so much! Bethany does very little to no editing. She wants you to look like yourself, not some made up version of who you think you should be.
Q: “Am I too old to do this?”
A: I want you to say this out loud, “I AM NEVER TOO OLD TO DO ANYTHING….ANYTHING!” Rinse and repeat. Let's chat about your dream session.
Q: “I want to have this experience so bad, but I’m not photogenic/ hate to be in front of the camera.”
A: Honey, you are BQS perfect client! Bethany will guide you through natural poses from your head to your toes and pose your horse too.
Q: I’m pretty shy, how many people are on your team?
A: A typical shoot consists of Bethany and/or a hair/makeup artist, if you’re so inclined to add one on to your session. The hair and makeup artists leave once they've completed your look. Hair and makeup is a service that must be added onto your session.
Q: Who will be present during my session?
A: Bethany and an assistant may be present for equine portraits.
Q: What happens if there is bad weather?
A: If for some reason there’s inclement weather, you can reschedule outside of the 48 hour window.
We reschedule for long showers and thunderstorms, blizzard conditions, and if the temperature is 85 degrees fahrenheit and above.
Q: What happens if I need to reschedule?
A: Be sure to do so 48 hours prior to the photo shoot experience. Rescheduling is an additional fee if you’re outside this window.
Q: My horse is lame! Can we still do a session?
A: Absolutely, NOT. Please reach out before the 48 hour window. If Bethany or the team shows up and your horse is lame, without first discussing it with Bethany, you will be charged to reschedule. We will not be responsible for furthering your horse’s discomfort for a photo shoot. There’s a lot of walking and for the sake of everyone involved, please reschedule within the window.
BOOKING QUESTIONS
Q: “How do I book with Bethany?”
A: Fill out the contact form and we'll be in touch! We require a phone call prior to booking to see if we’re a good fit for each other, if so, we can book during our phone call.

Q: "What is your cancellation policy?"
A: The retainer fee is non-refundable, but if you need to reschedule your shoot for another time, we are happy to do so. If you reschedule/cancel within 48 hours of your session, we will reschedule for an additional fee. If there are no appointment slots left, you will be the first in line to have access to our books when they are open again.
PREPARING FOR YOUR SESSION
Q: “How many outfits can I bring?”
A: We love variety! Due to this being a location shoot, we request you plan for 1-3 outfits, if you want to be photographed with your horse. Outfit changes really cut down our session time, so 1-2 is fine.
Q: “Can I bring a friend or my partner?”
A: Yes, as this is on your property or boarding facility. Why are we so picky about this? Truth be told, additional people during a session can change the focus and mood of a session quickly. In order to get the images of your dreams, Bethany needs your full attention as she’s dedicating her time for you. So, we like to keep it down to those being photographed or one person helping with the horse(s)

Q: How long will my shoot be?
A: It depends on the horse and how prepared you are. Bethany will send you tips on how to prepare for your equine session for the best outcome and safety. This could be anywhere from 2-3 hours.
Q: Who will be doing my hair and makeup?
A: If hair and makeup comes with your session, you’ll meet Abby, Nikki, Jessica, or Lorena.

Q: Is hair and makeup included in your retainer fee?
A: No, hair and makeup is provided for an additional fee.
THE VIEWING AND ORDERING APPOINTMENT
Q: When do I get to see my photos from the shoot?
A: Before Bethany leaves your barn, we'll schedule your ordering appointment 1-3 weeks after your session. We'll prepare your images for you to see and make orders based on only what you love. All the images you see will be retouched, there will be color and black and white versions.

Q: When can I expect my order to come in?
A: Allow 6-8 weeks for us to prepare, order, and ship. We'll keep you posted along the way. We can also drop ship your order if you prefer.
Q: Do you offer monthly payment options?
A: Yes. We have 3, 6, and 9 month payment plan options.

Q: Can I order print products at a later date?
A: All purchasing decisions are made the day of the ordering appointment, however if you wish to add on to an already existing order, please notify us.

Q: “Do I get digital files?”
A: Every print product you purchase comes with its matching digital file.
Q: “What print products do you have?”
A: At the moment BQS has portfolio collections, album collections, and wall art.

Q: What are the most popular print items?
A: Good question! The Luxury Album and 30x40 metal wall art.

Q: What is the turnaround time on print products?
A: Once your order is paid in full, you'll receive your retouched images 2-3 weeks after your session and print material will arrive 6-12 weeks. (It’s coming from Quebec and produce very high quality gorgeous custom work! And the wait is so worth it!) It will come to the studio for quality control and you will be notified when it comes in to pick it up. Payment plans: This timeline applies once the final payment is received.

Q: Can my products be shipped to me?
A: Yes, please request this at the ordering appointment.

Q: What is your retouching philosophy?
A: We do a light skin retouching, getting rid of anything that’s not permanent.

Q: Can I request certain editing techniques?
A: It depends on the technique. 90% of the time the editing team can do just about anything. But this must be decided during the ordering appointment.

Q: Can I print my photos myself?
A: Yes, but I would err on the side of caution, clients who have done this in the past have had issues with a printer keeping images for themselves and also producing lower quality printing. Print at your own risk.

Q: Can I post my photos on social media?
A: Absolutely and tag us! @BethanyQuinnEquine

Q: Will you be publishing my photos online?
A: Only if you give permission.
